2006 Bronze Winner

I'm particularly proud of this campaign, because it wasn't intended to be done this way - but I was determined to do something different, and the result was a Bronze Award for "Direct Mail Advertising" from Healthcare Marketing Report.

This is a tri-fold direct mail piece, that was cutomized for each state it went to. This is the Texas version. So, imagine it folded twice, and when you pull it out of the envelope you see a "newspaper clipping" and a photo of your state "taped" on the front.

When you open it, there's a letter that mentions other local businesses that already use our services, along with a taped photo of an employee, and a "business card" "clipped" on the page.

All of this is on a "map" and it's titled "Discover Beryl." For each state, I changed the headline, photo, and like-businesses in the letter. Also, I modified the fake business card to the salesperson in that territory.

This is what this piece looked like originally; I thought we could do better than a letter:

Following are some of the elements.

Here are my hand-drawn sketches that I superimposed on the stock image scroll background, including our logo and an actual paperclip:

Here's a sample of two more headlines and state photos:

Here's what the blank background looked like for each one:

African Fertility Masks - 2009

A woman I've known for several years hired me to do a painting of a mask she bought at World Market. She supplied me with the canvas and mask. I photographed it front and profile. She was pretty particular on what colors she wanted me to use so it would match the colors in her bedroom. I sketched out what it would look like on a Post-It note. It took me a few months to complete it (due to other projects), but I'm happy to say she was pleased with the final painting.

This painting is 30" x 40" and I used oil paint.

Lenny for Paul - 1995

My girlfriend just asked me if I only paint women. So, I dug up this portrait I did of Lenny Kravitz for my friend Paul back in high school.

Based on a Rolling Stone photo, I photocopied it to enlarge the image. Then I painted the canvas black with acrylic paing, and drew a grid. Then it was simply paint-by-number.
